Editorial Copywriter

The Editorial Copywriter is a hands-on contributor who can quickly and efficiently develop original and on-brand customer communication. This position will be an integral member of the Creative Services team, work collaboratively with the Marketing team and report to the Editorial Manager. This full-time contract-to-hire position is performed onsite with no possibilities of telecommuting.

This is a rare opportunity to join the Creative Services team at Shutterfly and have a hand in defining a successful, growing brand. Shutterfly offers one-of-a-kind photo books, professional-quality prints, cards, stationery, calendars, personalized websites and innovative photo gifts to preserve life’s memories.

The Editorial copywriter will take joy in writing and editing material that inspires an audience who are driven to express themselves through photography. The editorial copywriter will have experience in developing editorial content which inspires customers to not only engage in product opportunities but gives them ideas and insights that enhances their view of a brand.

The writer must be versatile in their ability to alter the voice of specific copy needs, while maintaining the brand tone as they move quickly and comfortably between multiple projects. Writer must be detail-oriented and possess a tireless can-do attitude. We’re looking for someone who thrives on taking initiative and takes pride in overachieving.

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Work with our Editorial Manager to set an editorial calendar for lifestyle driven vertical channels
  • Write and edit content (or supervise 3rd party contributions) for editorial releases and solution-based microsites
  • Write and edit clear, concise and strategic messaging for partner marketing to include banners, promo wells and emails that drive business results, support key marketing initiatives and inspire action
  • Edit and write to support the integration of community activities into our publishing platform and on social media sites
  • Write thoughtful and elegant PIP copy
  • Drive and manage projects internally; gain approvals from internal partners, Editorial Manager or the Creative Director
  • Attend kick-offs and creative reviews and collaborate with the marketing team to ensure projects are completed in a timely manner
  • Condense significant amounts of messaging into succinct consumer communications
  • Work closely with peers in design, marketing and merchandising while maintaining and upholding the Shutterfly brand to ensure a consistent tone and style across all forms of communication
  • Collaborate with merchandising managers responsible for content development
  • Continually ascertain workflow efficiency and accurate completion of projects according to deadlines
  • Additional responsibilities as requested by manager

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least 5 years as a full-time copywriter, preferably working with editorial material that inspires an audience to act
  • Passion for writing creative retail copy
  • Good working knowledge of user-generated content, internet community activities and social media sites
  • Demonstrated interest in and aptitude for consumer e-commerce and technology
  • Ability to align creative concepts with marketing strategies
  • Possess superior language, grammar and creative writing skills
  • Ability to generate concepts that support marketing strategies (i.e., creative with concepts, clear and concise in messaging)
  • Ability to adapt writing to the Shutterfly voice and to write across a variety of mediums including email, online and print
  • Articulate thinker with a sense of humor and an ability to take creative direction, react quickly and interact productively during kick-off meetings
  • Exceptional idea and concept development
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of an internal creative team and as a resource for different marketing teams
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to effectively multi-task in a deadline driven environment; flexible in meeting deadlines and urgent requests
  • Highly motivated
  • Proficient in Microsoft word
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required
