Systems Administrator - Data Center

This position will focus on delivering projects in the data center in Santa Clara, CA. Candidate will exhibit a holistic understanding of data center operations and be competent with functional operations of server, storage and network functions. This individual will possess skills in datacenter operational technologies ranging from technical skills such as Unix Operating Systems and server/storage hardware to Site Monitoring triage and escalation. The role will require a general understanding of all data center functions (production operations, network, change control, DR/Business continuity, helpdesk, systems management and facilities) with a focus on server, storage and database technologies.

Candidate will have a full understanding of the interdependencies of data center functions and technologies. The position will require strong client facing skills and an acute understanding of project management for ongoing data center operations as well as new data center expansion efforts.

Skills:

  • Datacenter/Server Operational Components (Monitoring, Management, etc.)
  • Asset Management (Experience with tools/process)
  • Facilities Management (Power, HVAC, Space Layout, Hard Wire Topologies, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Candidate must have some combination of the following skills
  • Holistic Datacenter Operations Understanding (i.e. Production operations, server, storage, network, database management, systems management etc.)
  • Server Platform technologies
  • Storage Platform technologies
  • Basic Knowledge of Power (i.e. 110V vs. 208V, 20A vs. 30A etc.)

Position requires a customer-focused and detail oriented person with strong nuts-and-bolts operations experience implementing and maintaining data center infrastructures and installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and supporting multi-platform systems (Solaris/NT/Linux) and web services in a 24×7 fast-paced, dynamic Internet/e-commerce production environment. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional attention to detail and quality and has a strong interest in growing their technical skillset.

The role may require participation in a 24×7 on-call/on-site support rotation and will require racking of servers and data center equipment.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Data Center / Co-location Infrastructure Management
  • HW/SW Inventory Control
  • Rack Diagrams and Change Control Coordination
  • System Builds and Administration
  • Racking, cabling, labeling of all equipment; power and rack audits
  • Configuration and troubleshooting of complex hardware, storage, backups/recovery
  • RMA facilitation, shipping and receiving and coordination with vendors for problem/resolution
  • Documentation
  • Provide tactical support of over 2000 production Linux / Unix / Windows servers
  • 24×7 uptime requirement for this site; will be part of on call rotation
  • Work in Network Operations Center to resolve site issues
  • Strong hardware, software and network diagnostics skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to produce written documentation for a technical and non-technical audience
  • Ability to manage vendors successfully
